Government Sports Hostel (Cuttack) beat Sambalpur Football Academy 6-5 in the final via tie-breaker to emerge champions in the 15th Tata-Utkalika Cup Invitation Floodlight Football Tournament at Unit-VI High School ground here today. Tie-break rule was applied after play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw. Prafulla Minz gave Sambalpur Football Academy the lead in the 28th minute, Bhabagrahi Padhiari equalized for Sports Hostel in the 63rd minute.
Former India football captain Chuni Goswami gave away the trophy in the closing function. Energy Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, Odisha Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera and hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey were present on the occasion.
With this tournament, the silver jubilee celebration of host Unit-VI Athletic Association culminated in style. One exhibition football match between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar school teams, another between veteran teams of Rourkela and Bhubaneswar, a sports workshop and cultural show were other items of the silver jubilee celebration.
Eminent sportspersons Dilip Tirkey, Anuradha Biswal, Sradhanjali Samantaray, K Ravi Kumar, Pratima Puhana, Bhabani Mohanty, Mohammad Shahid Jabbar and sports officials Bhakta Ballabh Das, Dilip Kumar Samantaray were felicitated on the occasion.
